Recipes for the Skin

For the Skin

Rosewater Hand Cream

-1 part rosewater
-2 parts glycerin

Put ingredients in a bottle and shake until blended. Shake well each time before using.

Soft Skin Lotion

-1 C dried chamomile
-4 tbsp honey
-1 C milk
-8 tsp wheat germ

Steep chamomile in milk for a few hours. Strain, keeping liquid. Add honey and wheat germ to liquid mixture. Blend well. Place in a bottle. Refrigerate any used portions. Keeps up to a week.

Soothing Rosemary Lotion

-1 oz rosemary leaves
-1 C rain water
-1 C vinegar

In a stainless steal or enamel pan, simmer leaves and rain water. Simmer for 10 minutes over medium heat. Remove from heat, add vinegar and strain. Let cool and pour into a glass jar with a lid. Keep in a cool dark place. Apply to sore areas with a cotton ball. Rub small amounts on skin as a lotion. Overall skin softener. Also soothes swellings, stiffness from exercise and sports, and sore spots.

Cold Weather Balm

-5 parts beeswax
-3 parts coconut oil
-5 drops tea tree essential oil
-5 drops chamomile essential oil
Put the beeswax and the coconut oil in a glass container inside a pan of water. Heat the pan until the wax is completely melted. Mix constantly and thoroughly. Remove from the heat and let it cool until it is only warm to the touch. Add your essential oils. Pour in a cream container. There is no need to refrigerate.

Note: the balm will be solid and you may need a popsicle stick to spread it on your hands, but it will melt into your skin instantly. This balm can also be used as a preventative treatment when your hands will be immersed in water for a while.

Butter Me Up Body Butter

-1 ripe banana
-1 stick softened butter
-1/4 C whipping cream
-flesh of one ripe mango

Blend ingredients — one at a time — in blender or food processor until smooth. Smother mixture all over body (be careful not to drip!), gently massaging it into your skin. You can also smooth this blend all over the face, if you have dry skin, avoiding eye area. Lie on top of towel and just relax for about 10 minutes. This may take getting used to, but the supple, luxurious results should be enough to entice you. Rinse off in the shower and follow by admiring your gorgeous, buttery skin in the mirror.
