Making a Besom

Making a Besom
Brigid Amor

-straight branch or dowel (12-18 inches long usually or longer and approx. ½ in diameter)
-scissors
-raffia
-hot glue
-paint and decorations
-bunches of dried plants such as cedar, fennel, lavender or rosemary
Before you begin, prep your branch or dowel by stripping the bark (if you wish) or painting your dowel. Use whatever color feels right and comfortable to you- you may even want to use a few colors. Next, bundle your dried herbs/plants and bind them to the end of your branch or dowel with a combination of raffia and hot glue. Once your plants are bound, trim them to even length. From here, you can decorate your besom in any way you want. You may choose to use crystals, wires, beads or feathers.. Remember that your besom is for the purification of your circle and choose accordingly. Make sure you remember to purify your besom with some salt water before use.
