This is an article I found recently while thinking about how best to explain how to go about learning the path to new beginners in paganism. I find it to be incredibly astute and filled with wisdom, and therefore very useful. I think it is not only useful to those beginning on the path but also those who have been on the path for awhile as it is a good reminder of the way one can best and most truthfully follow and know their chosen path.
1. Fully understand the discomforts of your spirit and reasons for spiritual need before choosing your path.
2. Choose your path not for romantic reasons, but true spiritual comfort.
3. A path that does not provide a road for your spiritual evolution is not a path, but a labyrinth for the lost.
4. Beware of those with high sounding names and titles, for they consist primarily of the self-grandiose and little of spiritual truths.
5. Believe not every word or sound, for multitudes will ply you with falsehoods. Choose your spiritual community carefully.
6. Recognize your chosen path for what is, and attempt not to re-write history.
7. Realize your various planes of existence, and insure that each is self-supporting.
8. Cling not to old false beliefs, but welcome new knowledge and experiences.
9. Seek guidance only from others, pay attention to your own life and let it be your primary teacher.
10. Feed your spirit with compassion and service to others.
