Cleansing Ritual Objects

Cleansing Ritual Objects

Cleansing ritual objects is imperative for your rituals or spells to be successful and work exactly the way you intend them to. It drives away other people’s energies, environmental energies and other purposes the object may have been empowered for in past. Just as you shower before an important date to get ready, you cleanse before a ritual to prepare and focus your energy and the energies around you. Here’s some ways to cleanse and purify objects, rooms or even yourself:

-Sunlight is a completely pure and strong energy, as is moonlight. Therefore both are very useful in cleansing objects. Place your chosen objects outside (make sure they‘re protected), on a windowsill or even just in a window where they can bask in the light for up to a day before your ritual or spell. Picture the light pushing out all darkness and cloudiness in the object and filling it with a pure, glowing light.
-Just light sunlight and moonlight, water (best to use purified water) is a pure substance that is lovely for cleansing both yourself and objects. Depending on the object, you can use water with a bit of salt in it (DO NOT use salt water with silver or stones like lapis) or simply pure water to wash away negative energies. Similarly, before a spell or ritual you may choose to bathe or shower. You can even add herbs or oils to your bath or shower to add to the purpose of your ritual. You may choose to either let the object soak for awhile in your pure water or alternatively, just wash it. Visualize the water washing away all the dirt, grime and negative energy on the object or your body as you bathe it.
-There are many herbs that can be used in smudging to cleanse both yourself and ritual objects. Sage, sweet grass and juniper are some of the more popular herbs and are often very easy to find- you may even find them growing in your area (make sure to thank and bless the plant if you’re going to use it.) Smudging entails bundling the herbs, lighting the end on fire and using the smoke to drive away negative energy. However, if you are asthmatic or irritated by smoke, this may not be your best choice. If you so choose to use this method, wave the smudge stick around your body or your object and picture negative energy floating away with the smoke on the wind.
-If you need to cleanse a whole room or space, you can choose to smudge, use water (mop the floor), use air (by opening windows and floating negativity away on a breeze) or use energy. However, the most traditional method is to sweep the room using a ritual broom. By doing this, you “sweep” away the negative energies.
-If you can generate energy and visualize, you can use energy to cleanse your object or yourself as an alternative. Generate a ball or stream of energy and picture it flowing into the object and driving every bit of negative energy out into the ground or simply into space. Do not (unless you are very experienced and very good at grounding) suck the negative energy out of the object and attempt to ground it out yourself.
-For personal cleansing, you may choose to ground out your negative energy. Picture a thread of energy flowing down your body from your crown chakra, all the way to your root chakra and to the floor in a straight line and focus on pushing your negative energy through the thread just like you might blow through a straw. Picture the energy being absorbed by the earth and dissipated away.

Once you’ve completed the cleansing process, you are free to go on with your ritual and empowering your ritual objects. Please note that if you do cleanse an object, your energy has become attached to it and it will have to be re-cleansed if anyone else is going to use it in a spell or ritual. In the same vein, always cleanse objects that have been lent to you because they may end up being contradictory to your energy and useless in the spell or ritual.
