![]() Candle magick is one of the simplest and most common ways to do spellwork, and is also used in ritual. Candle magick is based on the principles of color magick, the invocation of purpose and often herbal magicks. Candles of specific colors are used to signify specific purposes in syncopation with visualization and the utilization of significant essential oils to “dress” the candle. Inscribing Your Candle Prior to dressing your candle and after cleansing it, you may wish to inscribe it with a symbol in order to benefit your purpose. You may choose to use a concecrated sharp implement or your boline, however, be aware of how much pressure you are putting on your candle and where as you may cause it to snap in half or chip. One of the most common symbols used for inscribing candles is the “Star of David” which represents the concept of “as above, so below”, representing how what happens here on earth is reflected in other realms as well. Other common symbols are a heart for love, a shamrock for love or symbols from the kameas. Dressing Your Candle Dressing a candle is the act of coating a candle with oil while concentrating on the intention for which you will be burning the candle. Candle dressing adds your own personal vibrations to the oil and incorporates your own personal oil from your hands into the candle, attaching it to you and only you. To begin with, choose an oil that is associated with your purpose and will not irritate your skin. For example, if you were doing a purification ritual, you would use an oil like orange, lemon, eucalyptus or peppermint oil. Sprinkle the oil onto the candle (you may choose to use a specific number of drops to signify your purpose as well) and either stroke the candle the same number of times from the ends to the middle (for a spell that generates something) or from the middle to the ends (for a banishment or repelling spell), rubbing the oil slowly into the candle. Do not spread the oil over the top where the wick is as your oil may be flammable. While rubbing the oil into your candle, concentrate on your purpose and imagine it coming to fruition. Remember, if your candle smothers itself several times, keeps going out or breaks, take it as a sign to stop your spell or ritual. Likewise, if the glass your candle is in cracks or explodes, take it as a definite sign to stop as something is going extremely wrong. Also, make sure to go into your spell or ritual with positive expectations. Feeding your spell with positive energy will cause it to grow and expand, whereas feeding it with negative energy will poison it and cause it to die. Back |
